As part of Fresno County's Sesquicentennial Celebration the San Joaquin River Parkway and Conservation Trust and Fresno City and County Historical society are co-sponsoring a new exhibit at the River Center entitled "Millerton on the San Joaquin: The Story of Fresno's First County Seat." The exhibit, which will be on display for one year beginning May 7, 2006, features artifacts and photographs from life in Millerton in the 1850's, before it was relocated to make way for Millerton Reservoir.
Photographs depicting life in the 1850's by colorful mountain character R.W. Riggs will be featured May through July 2006. Featuring artifacts, photographs and documents from the Fresno Historical Society Archives, this exhibit will explore the history of Millerton through the 1850s and 60s -- from its beginnings as the gold rush settlement of Rootville to its heyday as our first County Seat.
